Training

A free online short course is now available to learn more about the principles and application of healthy urbanism. Participants will gain new knowledge and skills to promote health and wellbeing through design and planning at multiple urban scales. 

Audience: This course is aimed at built environment and public health professionals and postgraduate students, including those working in planning, engineering, architecture and other fields.

Time commitment: The total time to complete the course is 3.5 hours. Participants can complete content at their own pace, focusing on the materials that suit their interests and experience..

The learning outcomes are for participants to:

  1. Understand and describe how urban development influences health and wellbeing at multiple scales;
  2. Describe how specific built environment design and policy measures relate to health through sustainability, inclusion and equity principles;
  3. Identify transferable successes and lessons learnt from international case studies, tools and resources;
  4. Feel confident to apply new knowledge gained within your professional practice.

How to register

The course is offered on the UCLeXtend platform, which is University College London’s public-facing learning platform for blended and online short courses.

The Healthy Urbanism training course was developed by UCL researchers led by Helen Pineo and Gemma Moore. An advisory group shaped the materials. This training programme was funded by the generous support of Guy’s & St Thomas’ Foundation and the Bartlett Innovation Fund at UCL.
